Competitors must navigate thousands of miles of inland waterways—facing weather, currents, locks, fuel scarcity, and mechanical failures—armed with nothing but ingenuity, teamwork, and duct tape.

How long is the course?

1,565 miles, from Saint Paul to Mobile Bay. The course page carries the official route and is the authority on distance.

How long do we have to finish?

Eight days — 192 hours, continuous. The clock does not stop for weather, repairs, or rest. See the rules.

What kind of boats can race?

Any boat, as long as it’s acquired and prepared for $5,000 or less, safety gear excluded. Expect everything from patched-up fishing rigs to deeply questionable pontoons. Full detail in the rules.

Why the $5,000 limit?

Because ingenuity is more fun than money. Anyone can throw cash at a problem, but TGARR rewards creativity, resourcefulness, and clever repairs made on the fly.

Can I bring spare parts?

Yes, but they count toward the $5,000 if they’re part of your boat setup. “It was lying in my garage” doesn’t cut it — see the rules.

What safety rules are in place?

Safety is non-negotiable. Every boat must carry proper equipment, and those costs don’t count toward the budget cap. The required list is on the safety page.

What happens if my boat breaks down?

Who came up with this madness?

TGARR was dreamed up by lifelong adventurers Rich Argentieri and Braden Prickett. Both share a love of competition, water, and ridiculous ideas that somehow turn into reality.

Can spectators follow along?

Yes. Teams share updates, photos, and stories along the way on the race updates feed. Expect drama, breakdowns, river lore, and the occasional miracle repair.

How do I sign up?
